FIELDPRO is a unique and comprehensive management, engineering, and logistical tool for operations personnel involved in planning, design, and execution of petroleum industry projects. Building on the worldwide success of FIELDPRO FRACPRO (a module of the package), FIELDPRO will provide all personnel with independent, integrated capabilities for data handling, physical modeling, and efficient execution of all critical tasks. All modules allow analysis with real-time data and realistic overall evaluation.

Additional FIELDPRO modules and interfaces to software from other vendors are also under development and will be described in the future. All of these developments will bring, to both existing and new software, the powerful data handling and feature-rich graphical interfaces of the FIELDPRO system in a practical and user-friendly platform.

All sections of this documentation are marked by graphics that indicate for whom they are intended (e.g., sections of help that are useful for administrators will be marked). You will see the following graphics throughout the help:

This level is for beginner users or users who just want to achieve some basic objectives (such as finding information, entering information, or generating simple outputs) and who do not necessarily want to spend much time understanding the complete logic of the system.

This level is for more advanced users who want to understand more about how the FIELDPRO System interface is organized, and who want to perform more advanced tasks. It is assumed that Advanced users already have covered all of the material required by Basic users.

This level is for Administrators, either of database systems, information technology, or administrators of the permissions that are built into the FIELDPRO System. Administrator users need not have Basic or Advanced understanding of the program interface, but it will likely improve their efficiency. Note: If a section is marked Administrator, it means that this is a section that is interesting to Administrators; the section may also be marked as of interest to Basic or Advanced users also.

You can begin using the program at any stage of your reading of this documentation: if you prefer to ‘get your hands dirty’ as quickly as possible, you can start by going through the FIELDPRO Quickstart Tutorials. These tutorials will guide you through the program step by step to achieve some simple, basic objectives. They can be very helpful both to beginner and advanced users in familiarizing you with the functionality that is available in the program.

The FIELDPRO Main Tutorials are intended as more in-depth examples of the principal functionality of FIELDPRO.

The first section of the documentation begins with a description of how to install FIELDPRO. The next, and related, section is FIELDPRO Database Management.

Note: The way you install the database and application can be related and is an important section for Administrators.

Important Note:

Our next focus is usually on getting data into and out of the FIELDPRO System. The FIELDPRO Migration Manager application is available integrated into the FIELDPRO System or as a standalone application.

We are continuously developing interfaces to common (and custom) data sources used in the system. It is possible to use standard “Migration FIles” (.mig) to migrate data to or from pre-defined standard external data sources using the FIELDPRO Migration Manager. One can also copy or modify existing migs or create new migs to adapt migrations for new or modified database structures. These migs can be generated for databases or for individual files (excel, ascii).

The FIELDPRO Migration Manager includes Check In and Check Out functionality to move data from one FIELDPRO database to another: this can be used to synchronize databases in different locations, or to allow a user to download a subset of a master or central server database to a local database on his laptop and take the information into the field (the inspiration for the name of our product)!

The FIELDPRO Migration Manager scheduler permits users to configure a time or frequency when a migration should be performed (e.g., updating from or to an external database or file), which can therefore be configured to allow users to receive files from partners and import them to the database automatically, saving time and avoiding errors due to hand typing or translation of data from standard structures.

The Basics of FIELDPRO section is where you will find a description of the layout and the fundamental concept of the FIELDPRO System. This is intended to instruct you in basic navigation of the system.

One functionality which is common to the FIELDPRO Migration Manager and the FIELDPRO System is our Express Export and Express Import functionality. This functionality allows you to generate a standard compressed XML-based file (called an XXP) that can contain one or more pieces of information along with all of the header information required to synchronize this data with another FIELDPRO data source. This functionality can be used to send entire wellbore descriptions or just daily data updates, as well as screen configurations and output layouts, and these files can be compressed and encrypted for additional efficiency and security. It is also possible to encrypt this file.

The next section is often the most interesting, because it is the FIELDPRO Outputs: the graphics and reports that you can obtain from the program.

In order to generate those outputs, you must have inputs, so the next several sections are related to this. There are four major categories of information that can be stored in the system: Components, Modules, Projects, and Hyperlinks.

Components contain one or more screens where data can be loaded. Some calculations or “rules” are maintained within these Components (e.g., calculate a survey from targets, or generate a geological hierarchy, GOR is always Gas divided by Oil).

Modules contain a sequence of screens that allow the user to perform sophisticated analyses or execute a model that can combine data from multiple Components.

Projects combine information that may be related to multiple wells or may be independent of wells (e.g., meters, tanks, facilities, assets). Projects tend to have a broader perspective than individual wells (e.g., full area candidate selection, reserves planning, production monitoring).

Hyperlinks are used to link external files and data to the system either for display as part of FIELDPRO outputs or simply to facilitate fast access to your files and archives (both physical and digital).

After all of the data types, we detail the System Configuration Explorer, which allows you to configure everything from the interface (language and screen layout) and user access rights to the references and units used throughout the program.
