Drag Torque Tutorial.

Drag Torque Model was designed to simulate pipe string loads during a cementation process. Knowing pipe string loads allow accurate planning cementation job to protect pipe string body and hook against damage. This outputs are calculated in two ways: loads during pipe pick up and slack off process. Model also allows o see: stresses arising during cementation job in pipe string, safe outer and inner pressures, safe drag and safe torque. “Safe loads” here are assumed to be in terms of yielding start.

Lunch project explorer using “Menu/File/FIELDPRO project explorer” or press [Shift]-[F4]. Select “Drag Torque Tutorial Project” project. After this select “Drag Torque - Deviated Well - Base case” file. Press “Lunch File” button on project explorer action zone.

On appearing “Main Screen”

press “Cementing Simulation Button”. You will see next screen:

Starting from this screen press “Next” on each screen until “Drag and Torque Options” screen appears in screens sequence (you can also press [Ctrl]-[F7] at one stroke to obtain this screen):

“Drag Torque Model Option”: “Reciprocation only” – means that the cementing process will be modeled without pipe rotation. “Rotation only” – means that the cementing process will be modeled without pipe axial moving. “Reciprocation and Rotation” – means that the cementing process will be modeled with the pipe axial moving and rotation together.

“Friction Options”:

“Friction Factor (Metal to Metal)” – defines the friction factor that will be taken into account for modeling pipe movement in the area where pipe touching the casing. “Friction Factor (Drag in Fluid)” – defines the friction factor that will be taken into account for modeling pipe Drag movement in the area where pipe touching the formation. “Friction Factor (Torque in Fluid)” – defines the friction factor that will be taken into account for modeling pipe Torque movement in the area where pipe touching the formation. “Use Pipe/Fluid Friction” – this check box defines will or not the fluid movement along the pipe effect be taken into account.

“Reciprocation Speed” – defines the pipe axial movement speed.

“Rotation Speed” – defines the pipe radial movement (rotation) speed.

Or you can use “Drag/Torque” button from “Simulation Control Screen” [F10] screen also to get this screen:

Run the model by pressing “Run Simulator” on “SIMULATOR CONTROL” [F10] screen or use [Alt]-[R] hotkey. You can also use menu by clicking “Start Model”:

or click button on toolbar:

Wait until “Simulation completed.” message appears on the left bar of the status bar:

You can see all the Drag Torque Model outputs during the Cementpro simulation.

In order to see Drag Torque Model results use “Drag Torque Depth Channels” and “Drag Torque Time Channels” system plots:

These system plots are accessible from 3 sources:

“Results Graph” [Alt]-[F2] – see corresponding buttons:

Projects Explorer – “System Graphs” – see corresponding plots:

Here you should select one of the mentioned above plots and click “View” button.

“Drag and Torque Options” [Ctrl]-[F7] screen – see corresponding buttons:

These system plots contain:

“Drag Torque Depth Channels”:

“D/T Slack off Drag“

“D/T Pickup Drag“

“D/T Slack off Torque“

“D/T Pickup Torque“

“D/T InPipe Friction Stress“

“D/T Annulus Friction Stress“

“Drag Torque Time Channels”:

“D/T PickUp Hookload“

“D/T Slack off Hookload“

To see all the Drag Torque Model channels you can create new plot add channels using select channel dialog.

In order to create new Plot just click “New Graph” on Project Explorer action zone in “Drag Torque - Deviated Well - Base case”/“Input Graphs” folder.

Point created graph in the explorer tree and click “Add Channel”.

To add Drag Torque Model channel on appeared “Select Channel” dialog Point “Drag/Torque Channels” or “Burst/Collapse Channels” item, select needed channel and press “Load” button.
