Configure Security
This dialog is intended to allow you to configure which license type you would like to use.
This dialog may appear automatically when you start the program if no license has been configured or if the license option configured has not successfully retrieved a valid license.
You can also access this dialog from the FIELDPRO Entry Screen or FIELDPRO Data Migration Manager screen using the Configure Security option.
Local USB/Serial dongle – Select this option if the license you are going to use is a physical device (USB or Parallel Port key/dongle).
Install Local Drivers – This option will only be available if the user has Local Administrator rights and if the drivers for the physical device has not been detected. This option will install the device drivers required to recognize the physical key.
Important Note: You should not attach USB security devices to the computer until the installation is complete and the system has been rebooted. If you attach the USB key before installing and rebooting, Windows tries to recognize it, finds no driver, gives up and puts the key on a "black list". Later, even if you have installed the drivers, when you attach the key to that port again, Windows checks the black list and just ignores the key. This is a nice gift from Microsoft to System Administrators everywhere: you have to go to the Device Manager and select to update the driver related to the key and then select the already-installed driver to get Windows to recognize the key. If you attach the device to any other port, it should recognize it normally.
FlexLM – Select this option if the license you are going to use is a software license based on FlexLM. There are then two options for the source of this software license:
Specify the License Server System (Enter the Computer Name of the FlexLM License Server) – Select this option if you are operating on a network and there is a FlexLM License Server (i.e. a computer available on the network which can be addressed by your machine whenever a license is required, and is running the FlexLM License Service that will allow it to respond to requests for a license and will manage the available licenses of the company).
Note: Selecting this option will start a short sequence of screens where the connection to the license server will be verified and tested for speed/performance.
Specify the License File (Select the file that contains the FlexLM license for this computer) – Select this option if you have received a software license file based on FlexLM that is tied to the specific computer you are using and which is valid for this machine only.
Browse – This option is only available if the Specify the License File option is selected: this will launch the standard Open File dialog where you can select the license file that is required.
Continue – Accept the update of the licensing system and continue with the program which requested a license.
Cancel – Cancel the update of the licensing system (any changes made on this screen).
