Installing FIELDPRO

Admin Level.png

Important Note: You MUST have Administrative Rights on the computer on which you are installing the software system in order to install the system drivers of the program to your Windows/System directory! For further information on the access rights you have on your computer, please consult your IT department.

Installation of the FIELDPRO Client, the FIELDPRO System or any other associated FIELDPRO application is straightforward:

If you are installing from a FIELDPRO Installation CD:

•Insert the FIELDPRO installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.

•The auto-play functionality built into Windows should launch the FIELDPRO Installation and Introduction screen, where you can select what you want to install.

•If CD auto-play fails or is deactivated on your machine, you can right click on it in the Windows Explorer and select Autoplay.

•Alternatively, you can use the Windows Explorer to navigate to the CD drive on which the installation is available, and double-click on either the ‘Intro.exe’ application file to launch the FIELDPRO Installation and Introduction screen, or navigate to the appropriate sub-directory and double-click on the ‘Setup.exe’ application file (e.g., D:\FIELDPRO Client\setup.exe) to start the installation process.

•Alternatively you can go to the Start – Run… option and type the appropriate path to the file (e.g., D:\intro.exe or D:\FIELDPRO Client\setup.exe (assuming your CD drive letter is D:)).

If you are installing from a local or network drive other than your CD-ROM:

•You can use Windows Explorer to navigate to that drive and double-click on either the ‘Intro.exe’ application file to launch the FIELDPRO Installation and Introduction screen or the ‘Setup.exe’ application file (e.g., Z:\Network Installations\FIELDPRO Client\setup.exe) to start the installation process.

•Alternatively you can go to the Start – Run… option and type the appropriate path to the file (e.g., \\Server\Network Installations\FIELDPRO Client\setup.exe (assuming your network drive is \\Server\)).

Note: FIELDPRO can be installed without a security key or license attached or available to the computer on which you are installing the system. It is only necessary to have the key attached when the software itself (not the installer) is in use.

The installation allows you to choose where the application will be installed, and where the shortcuts/links for them will be located on your Start/Program taskbar menu.

Note: We recommend that you use the default settings of the installation.

Please follow the instructions given by the installation program and reboot your computer when the installation procedure is finished.

Important Note: You should not attach USB security devices to the computer until the installation is complete and the system has been rebooted. If you attach the USB key before installing and rebooting, Windows tries to recognize it, finds no driver, gives up and puts the key on a "black list". Later, even if you have installed the drivers, when you attach the key to that port again, Windows checks the black list and just ignores the key. This is a nice gift from Microsoft to System Administrators everywhere: you have to go to the Device Manager and select to update the driver related to the key and then select the already-installed driver to get Windows to recognize the key. If you attach the device to any other port, it should recognize it normally.
